Factors affecting health and safety at work
There are three factors which affect health and safety at work. These are
listed below with examples:
Environmental Factors
- Heating: heat stroke, cramps, low temperature
- Poor lighting: headache, eye strains
- Dust: Pneumoconiosis, silicosis
- Noise: deafness, affects concentration
Occupational Factors
- Butchers and carpenters - risk of cutting
- Cleaners and food handlers - risk of contact dermatitis
- Store keepers and health carers - risk of back strain
Note: When hazards are not obvious for certain jobs the risks are still
there.
Human Factors
- Need for proper training and supervision
- Risk to health and safety - untrained, unwell, carelessness
- Employees - responsible for own behaviour
